If you have a little spare time in the run up to Christmas, now is the time to find a seasonal volunteering role and get into the festive spirit!
Christmas time volunteering roles are not always about giving up time on Christmas Day but also about helping organisations and charities in the days and weeks before Christmas and into the New Year.
Are you handy at packing groceries? Age UK are looking for Bag Packing Volunteers in Chelmsford on various dates in December up to and including Christmas Eve.
Southend Christian Fellowship are looking for 40 volunteers who can help to host Christmas Dinner at a Southend location for up to 80 guests who would otherwise be alone.
Fancy serving up some festive fayre? On Boxing Day and/or New Year’s Day could you help at a Community Lunch in Westcliff? A brilliant atmosphere and a great way to give isolated people a special day. Soup with a sprig of holly takes place in Braintree Community Centre on 27th December. They will be serving tea and chat to invited people and are looking for volunteers who can give up to 4 ½ hours to serve up lunch, chat, or entertain their guests.
Night Shelter Volunteers are required for Basildon Night Shelter, a temporary scheme for homeless people in Basildon which opened on 1st December and will offer a welcome and warm place to sleep 3 nights a week until 31st March. Or could you help out at Winter Night Shelters across Southend offering a hot meal and bed and breakfast to the vulnerable and homeless.
If you would you like to bring an international flavour to Christmas this year, why not host an International Student in your home for a few days to save them from spending the holidays alone on a deserted campus?
Do you have a van? Would you be happy to help Farleigh Hospice collect Christmas trees on 7th and 8th January 2017? (Supporters will have pre-registered to have their tree taken away for recycling.)
