Bring Some Cheer – Volunteer!

With just a little spare time in the run up to Christmas you could find a seasonal volunteering role, get into the festive spirit and make a difference to others.

A variety of festive volunteering roles are available throughout the month.

If you like Christmas concerts then this local charity is looking for Front of House Volunteers in Southend on Saturday 16th December and Benfleet on Sunday 17th December.

Or, if you love to sing, Samaritans Christmas Choir will be at Southend Central Station on 20th December and at Benfleet Station on 21st December.  Singing helpers at needed at both these events.

Could you help out as an  Event Volunteer at Greenacres in North Weald on Sunday 17th December where they will be holding three services during the day?

 

Members of the public are invited to colour in a paper dove and write a message to family or friends on Saturdays leading up to Christmas.  The doves are then hung on the Christmas tree in Market Square, Harlow.  Dove Event Volunteers help people with this activity and accept the suggested £1 donation.  The events will take place on Saturday 16th December.

Saturday 2nd, 9th and 16th December, from 10am until 5.30pm. It’s a fun day out for volunteers Greeting Visitors on the vintage bus at either Audley End or Saffron Walden on Saturday 16th December.  You will be able to help with queries and direct passengers.

Looking for something to do on Christmas Day?:

A Family Centre in Southend needs Dining Assistant Volunteers  to help in the kitchen, washing up, waiter/waitress service taking meals to people and chatting on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Christmas Day Helpers will help provide a meal and companionship on Christmas Day in Uttlesford.  The day runs from 10.30 am-3 pm and help is required with cooking and preparing a packed tea.

Throughout December this charity for the elderly will be helping to bring lonely older people together, to make new friends and celebrate Christmas in tea rooms in Colchester, Cressing and Finchingfield.  Tinsel Tea Time Volunteers are required to provide a warm welcome to elderly guests while they enjoy their tea.

Southend Churches Winter Night Shelter Volunteers are needed from now until 30th March 2018.  Volunteers are needed to help provide a warm, welcoming and friendly experience for rough sleepers and help them to improve their lives. It is a life changing experience for everyone involved, and you can be a part of that.

Basildon Borough Night Shelter Volunteers  are need from now until 31st March 2018.  The Night Shelter will operate 5 nights a week at 6 different church halls around Basildon area.

Various charities need help with collections during the month of December:

Christmas Collector Volunteers are needed to help with collections at Sainsbury’s Colchester on Wednesday 20th December.

Spare just one hour to hold a collection tin in Epping on Friday 15th December.

A hospice is urgently looking for Collection Volunteers who can provide 1 or 2 hours of their time to collect donations in Basildon Town Centre, Lakeside and Grays.  Various dates available throughout December.

Could you be a Collection Volunteer  for a local food bank collecting cash in Harlow from Friday 15th December until Sunday 17th December?

If you enjoy meeting people and can spare a couple of hours  could you Volunteer for this charity collecting mainly at railway and tube stations and supermarkets around Epping and in central London on various dates throughout December?

Come and enjoy some festive fun as Santa’s Helper by collecting at supermarkets in Chelmsford on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December.

Charity shops are busy too and could use your help:

A charity shop in Frinton needs Christmas Helpers in December – their busiest time of the year.  Days/hours are flexible.

Back from university? Home alone? Time to spare? Give the gift of your time this Christmas as a Temporary Retail Volunteer at a charity shop in the Basildon, Billericay, Wickford area.

And, finally, if you’re a dab hand at bag packing, this is a fantastic opportunity to practice your skills while chatting to people and raise some much needed funds for this charity for the elderly.  Bag Packers are needed at a large food hall in Chelmsford from 18th to 23rd December at Clock Tower Retail Park and from 20th to 23rd  December at the High Street Branch.
