Volunteer’s Week takes place from 1st to 7th June every year and gives us an opportunity to thank the nation’s volunteers and to remind ourselves what a fantastic body of people they are!
This year we are thanking not only the people that contribute to their communities all year long but also those that have stepped up to help others during the Covid-19 pandemic.
For some the act of volunteering has indeed been a revelation. With their daily life disrupted and no regular activity to occupy them, they have turned to volunteering and for many this has meant a connection or reconnection with their community.
At Volunteer Essex we fervently hope that this new found community connection will continue for many Covid-19 volunteers. There are so many volunteering opportunities available that you can maintain that feel-good feeling all year. Covid-19 volunteers will have discovered, like many before them, volunteering is not just great for the community but it’s also great for your own wellbeing!
Julia, a Covid-19 volunteer in Maldon District said:
“It’s amazing to just be able to help people and some people are so grateful it just breaks your heart.”
