The Public Health Team at Essex County Council have recently launched their 5 Ways to Wellbeing campaign highlighting five steps that local residents can follow to keep them well, both in body and mind.
5 ways to Wellbeing shares five ways that are proven to keep an individual well, both physically and mentally.
The 5 ways to wellbeing that residents are being encouraged to follow are:
- Be Active
- Take Notice
- Keep Learning
Here at Volunteer Essex we believe that the right volunteering role can help you to achieve at least one of the five ways if not more.
Active volunteering roles
Being Active does not always mean being sporty, other ways to stay active include things such as gardening or walking.
This way to wellbeing is about being aware of the world around you and how you engage with it. Being trained as a mentor to others can help you to identify your own skills and knowledge and put them to good use.
Many volunteering roles offer you the opportunity to do something completely different. You could be trained as a first aider, become a museum guide, learn how to be a DJ and much more.
Volunteering offers the opportunity for you to give something back – your time and your skills. Perhaps you have a particular skill you can offer a local charity be it as a trustee offering business management or accountancy skills, a counsellor or a musician.
What better way to connect with your community then giving some of your time to help a charity. You can get involved with local events, be a befriender to older people in your local area or give support to a school.
With so many ways to get involved as a volunteer it might seem difficult to know where to start. The search facility on this website can be a good place to start however you could also take a first step by contacting your local Volunteer Centre for an informal chat about what you could do.
